Diagnosis & Cardiac Testing
Depend on us to perform a complete cardiac evaluation as the first step to diagnose your symptoms. Your doctor will use heart tests and advanced technology at UNC Health Lenoir to detect and treat your heart problem. Your tests may include:
- Cardiac CT scan
- Cardiac MRI
- Echocardiogram
- Doppler echocardiogram
- Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE)
- Electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG)
- Exercise stress test
- Holter monitoring
- Nuclear stress test
- Tilt table test
Cardiac Catheterization
If you need a diagnostic cardiac catheterization test to look at your heart, your cardiologist can perform the procedure close to home in the Catheterization Lab (Cath Lab) at UNC Health Lenoir. You may be able to go home about two hours after your diagnostic heart catheterization.
Coronary Angiogram
You may also get a coronary angiogram along with your heart catheterization procedure to check for blood flow blockages in your coronary arteries.
Angioplasty & Stent Placement
If your cardiac catheterization shows a blockage or narrowing of your arteries, your doctor can treat it using a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). This minimally invasive procedure, also known as angioplasty and stent placement, takes place in our Cath Lab. You can expect to stay in the hospital overnight after your procedure and return home the next day. If you require a higher level of care or surgery, UNC Health Lenoir partners with East Carolina Heart Institute to provide the best possible care for your individual needs. We’ll transport you by air to Greenville, North Carolina.
Heart Rhythm Support
Turn to UNC Health Lenoir for high-quality care and placement of implantable heart rate and defibrillation devices to monitor and treat arrhythmia, bradycardia, and heart failure at the McCain Heart Center. These devices include:
- Pacemaker
- Bi-ventricular pacemaker (BiV)
- Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD)
Specialty Cardiovascular Services & Treatments
Receive specialty cardiovascular care from our knowledgeable heart team with the skills to provide:
- Electrical cardioversion – Uses external electric shocks to restore your normal heart rhythm to treat atrial fibrillation
- Insertable cardiac monitoring device – Implants a miniature device beneath the skin to record heart rhythm and detect arrhythmias
- PICC line placement – Inserts a central IV line to provide medicine and fluids for your treatments
- Nephrostomy tube placement – Places a thin flexible tube within your kidney to increase renal function
