What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy helps people of all ages recover from illness or injury and manage chronic health conditions so they can perform meaningful everyday activities and tasks such as dressing, cooking, writing, driving, or interacting with others.

Individualized Occupational Therapy

When you work with our board-certified occupational therapists, you’ll receive a personalized treatment plan with therapy recommendations that fit your goals. Your plan will allow you to rebuild, increase, or maintain your ability to do the things that are important to you at work or home.

Conditions Benefiting From Occupational Therapy

Choose occupational therapy care and treatment at UNC Health Lenoir for conditions including:

  • Arthritis
  • Finger, hand, and wrist injuries, including fractures and carpel tunnel syndrome
  • Shoulder, elbow, forearm injuries including fractures, rotator cuff repair, and tendonitis
  • Total shoulder replacement and shoulder impingement syndrome
  • Developmental delays
  • Neurological diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and ALS

Occupational Therapy Specialized Services

Find the support you need from our specialized occupational therapy treatments such as:

  • Custom upper extremity splinting to support, immobilize, or protect the arm or hand
  • Saebo certified stroke treatment to assist you with arm and hand functions

Assistive Devices

Your occupational therapist may recommend assistive devices to ease your daily tasks at home or work.

Ask for a Referral for Rehabilitation Services

You’ll need a doctor’s referral for physical, occupational, or speech therapy at UNC Health Lenoir. Talk to your doctor for more information.
