Emergency Department Wins Award from Wake Forest Baptist Tele-stroke Network.

UNC Lenoir Emergency Department was recognized and awarded for the "Fastest Door to Thrombolytic" Time in the Wake Forest Baptist Tele-stroke Network for the first quarter of 2018.  The team was able to evaluate and treat the patient in 27 minutes from the time they entered our facility.  The benchmark goal is 60 minutes.  A lot of care occurs in this short span of time.  The patient is taken to CT for a CT scan of the brain, a physical assessment is completed, IV’s are started, lab work is drawn, and a tele-stroke consult is performed, culminating in the initiation of thrombolytic administration.

The team was led by Robbie Holland, RN, Jessica Long, RN, Chris Wright, PA.  The team also includes Lenoir county EMS, CT department staff, and Laboratory staff. The patient went on to have a full recovery from their stroke and was discharged from the hospital with no deficits.

The department and team were awarded a luncheon provided by Brett Parkhurst of Genentech, who has been a huge support in the growth of the stroke program at UNC Lenoir.
