UNC Lenoir Recognized for Timely Stroke Care

For people experiencing an acute stroke, 2 million brain cells are lost per minute making the stroke treatment extremely time sensitive. The faster treatment is provided, the less likely the patient will experience disability. The guidelines call for the “clot buster” medication to be administered within 60 minutes for the greatest potential for good outcomes and minimal disability.  UNC Lenoir Health Care was recently recognized for winning the Wake Forest Baptist Telestroke State Network door to needle time challenge for quarter 2, 2020, with a time of 25 minutes.  Jessica Hatch, RN, and provider Brent Rysewyk, PA, were recognized for this accomplishment.  This is the second time UNC Lenoir has been recognized for this accomplishment.

The UNC Lenoir Health Care stroke program has been awarded Advanced Primary Stroke Center Certification from The Joint Commission.
