UNC Lenoir Health  Care Awarded Stroke Accreditation from the Joint Commission

1/2/2022

UNC Lenoir Health Care has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Stroke Accreditation by demonstrating high-performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care.

UNC Lenoir Health Care Stroke Team, led by Dawn Becker, RN, Stroke Program Coordinator, underwent a rigorous review on September 21, 2021.  During the inspection, a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with Acute Stroke Care standards spanning several areas including acute treatment measures, stroke evaluation standards, and rehabilitation services.

The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts, and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance. The surveyors also conducted observations and interviews.

“The Joint Commission surveys health care organizations to protect the public by identifying deficiencies in care and working with those organizations to correct them as quickly and sustainably as possible,” says Mark Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Accreditation and Certification Operations, and chief nursing executive with The Joint Commission. “We commend UNC Lenoir Health Care for its continuous quality improvement efforts in patient safety and quality of care.”

“At UNC Lenoir Health Care, we consistently strive to improve and advance our quality of care.  Through hard work and consistent training, our team members are able to meet the rigorous standards set by The Joint Commission. This recognition furthers our mission to provide exceptional healthcare to the people we serve”, said Robert Enders, President and CEO, UNC Lenoir Health Care.
