Kinston, NC: Lenoir Hospital Foundation recently provided $71,405 for 2023 funding to support UNC Health Lenoir projects.

The Lenoir Hospital Foundation is a charitable organization that supports the mission of UNC Health Lenoir which is to ensure exceptional healthcare for the people we serve.

Seven special projects were funded enhancing patient and overall community health.

Projects focused on education, outreach, technology and medical interventions.

  1. Community Health Improvement Programs: Support for community outreach screenings for hypertension with a blood pressure machine located at the wellness center entrance. Support for drug abuse prevention education materials for a community outreach event.
  2. Pediatric Mock Code Simulator: Funds a pediatric mock code simulator with practice crash cart to run educational mock codes in the hospital setting.
  3. Employee Health Clinic Expansion: Support for a massage chair and enhancing a healing environment to create a new wellness setting for employees seen in this clinic.
  4. Cancer Center Screening & Cancer Center Blanket Warmer: Cancer Center funding for free screenings for colorectal cancer and additional slots in the community breast cancer screening program with Lenoir County Health Department. Also includes a requested blanket warmer for the cancer center.
  5. Pediatric Rehab Clinic: Supporting an expanding area of pediatric outpatient therapy with construction of a quiet room, pediatric equipment, and autism certifications for four employees.
  6. Walking Track Life Trail Station for Lower Body Equipment Refurbish: Funding for the lower body station’s two stationary bikes with total replacement of bikes due to wear and tear.
  7. Six Departmental Huddle Boards: “Huddles” group staff on units to share information for coordinating effective patient care to improve outcomes. Huddle boards provide a visual roadmap for healthcare teams.

“Our goal is to enhance the work of our hospital. We select projects that are meaningful to the care we provide in our own community”, said Carmon Jones, Foundation Board Chairman. She added, “Our Board approved these grants and we are pleased to be able to support all of the requested projects again this year. Donations to the Foundation make this possible and reflect the generosity and appreciation for what our hospital does and we are so grateful.”

Leaders at the hospital identified projects that would benefit from grant support and asked the Foundation for assistance outside of the regular hospital budgeting process.

The Lenoir Hospital Foundation was established over thirty-five years ago to receive and steward private donations for the purpose of enhancing patient care through support to UNC Lenoir Health Care. For more information about the Foundation please go to lenoirfoundation.org.
